Rhys James talks about his new show Forgives.
1 Tell us about your Fringe show
A man desperately tries to link his material to a title he chose in February. Fails.
2 Best thing about the Fringe?
Half of it is downhill!
3 Worst thing about the Fringe?
It's around 60 per cent uphill!
4 How many years have you been coming to the Fringe?
I first came to the fringe as a one-year-old, hired by a comedian to sit in the back of other comedy shows and ruin them. Unfortunately this backfired, as it quickly became apparent I was a star, and he was a criminal.
5 Favourite Fringe venue?
Virgin Pendolino, August 29, 13:07. Just a joke. I love the Pleasance Courtyard. Finally someone said it!
6 Best Fringe memory?
During my seventh fringe, age 12 (I had taken a few years off to focus on my studies), I saw a shooting star while walking home through the Meadows one night. I made a wish on that star, and today, that wish has come true. Thank you, the Herald.
7 Best heckle?
"Do you have a second to talk about water aid?"
8 Craziest on stage experience?
During my sixth fringe, age 17 (what?) I told a joke that was not met with a 20 minute standing ovation. Truly baffling. I had no idea what to do, so I quickly made my next joke twice as funny to make up the time. Classic Reej.
9 What’s on your rider?
Privacy.
10 How do you wind down after a show?
I go home and I check out some cool memes and gifs. If there aren't any memes and gifs around I peruse a listicle or two and grab an early night. Gotta be up early to check out the new memes and gifs, of course!
11 What do you love about Scotland?
I think Alex Salmond has very kind eyes.
12 What do you like about Edinburgh?
I'm not joking when I say the brickwork makes me feel nice. I don't understand that feeling at all but those are often the best ones.
13 What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve done?
I once liked an instagram photo of a girl called Kayleigh, but it was an accident.
14 What kind of jokes do a Scottish crowd seem to respond to?
Funny ones. After some research I have discovered that they are in fact, normal people. Jaws off the floor please, I'm vacuuming.
15 Favourite joke?
"Before I go Christmas shopping I always ask my girlfriend what her glove size is so that she's extra surprised on Christmas morning when her present is a pair of gloves that don't fit" - Adam Hess
16 Favourite Scottish food/drink?
Hatched egg and hopped yeast, thanks.
Rhys James' Forgives runs at Pleasance Courtyard until August 28.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
