Bojana Novakovic talks about The Blind Date Project.
1 Tell us about your Fringe show
Set in a Karaoke Bar, The Blind Date Project is an improvised meeting between two complete strangers (played by myself and a different performer every night) looking for connection.
There is no script. All dialogue is created on the spot, and directions are sent to us via text messages and phone calls by the director.
The ending is undefined, so what happens is entirely up in the air. No two shows are ever the same.
Guests are always a surprise and have included Jason Alexander, Margot Robbie, Joel Edgerton, Laverne Cox, Pablo Schreiber, Reggie Watts, and many more!
This year I know we have Al Murray and Nina Conti coming to do the show. Very exciting.
2 How does it feel to be playing the Fringe for the first time?
Exciting, overwhelming, grueling, titillating, terrifying, tiring, awesome.
3 Live act most looking forward to seeing at Fringe?
Can’t just be one. Felicity Ward. Gideon Irving. Daniel Kitson.
4 If you were not a performer/comedian what would you be doing?
Making money and getting laid.
5 How do you combat pre-gig nerves?
I don’t. I love, adore and nurture them. They want to fight. I never give them what they want.
6 Worst on stage experience?
It’s a toss up between that time someone put my foot in their mouth during the show, and the time that same person tried to make out with me in front of the audience - after the show.
7 How do you recover from a hefty heckle? Do you have a set of stock replies?
Heckles are gifts from God. No need for recovery. Just add water.
8 What do you love about Scotland?
I love that your national symbol is a mythical animal.
And that a dog has a key to the city.
And the handsome gingers.
9 What do you like about Edinburgh?
That I can see a doctor for free.
10 What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve done?
Gawp at all the gorgeous gingers….hang on that’s not Scottish. That’s me exploiting Scottish people. Yes – I’ve done that.
11 Who’s your favourite Scottish comedian?
Stanley Baxter!
12 Favourite joke?
I can’t answer this. :)
13 Favourite Scottish food/drink?
Tap water! This is one of the only countries left with decent tap water! Thank you Scotland.
The Blind Date Project runs at Zoo Southside (Venue 82) until August 28.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
