Goodbear (Joe Barnes and Henry Perryment) talk about their new show.

1 Tell us about your Fringe show

JB: It's a fast paced, character led sketch show that explores a group of people all around the world on a single day.

HP:  Yeh mate.

2 Best thing about the Fringe?

JB: Walking up Arthur's Seat on the final night to watch the sun rise.

HP: Seeing brilliant shows for sure. Sometimes that can be frustrating though…watching good work, thinking 'why didn’t I think of that?'

3 Worst thing about the Fringe?

JB: When you reach the top of Arthur's Seat and your left eye swells up because of the altitude (this actually happened to me. It was awful).

HP: Seeing brilliant shows
4 How many years have you been coming to the Fringe?

JB: This is my sixth fringe now.

HP: Ditto.

5 Favourite Fringe venue?

JB: We're at the Bedlam this year so feel like it has to be that! We were at the Underbelly's Wee Coo last year which was also lovely!

HP: I think the Bedlam has the best space. But different venues are good for all different reasons, location, reputation etc.
6 Best Fringe memory?

JB: Three years ago, a distant cousin actually came up to me on the Mile and said 'You don't know me, but we're related'. It was like something out of 'Who Do You Think You Are?'

HP: I had a similar thing last year. A family came up to me last year and said well done and had explained that they had seen every Fringe show I’ve ever done which was pretty overwhelming. They could name them all, plays, stand up shows, sketch shows. Love those guys.

7 Best heckle?

JB: An old lady suddenly said 'that's a very rude word' after one of us swore in our show last year (we weren't swearing at her, to be clear!)

HP: Someone saying ‘That was really funny!’
8 Craziest on stage experience?

JB: Last year there was a thunder storm and our venue roof started leaking onto the stage.  It was like a waterfall.

HP: I had a stage punch in a play go horribly wrong. Connected. Blood everywhere. Did the last act of the play with a bandage round my head then A&E for stitches. Tough for the young lad.

9 What’s on your rider?

JB: Bottles of water; you've got to keep hydrated guys.

HP: I did a fringe one year with loads of Borrocca and I didn’t get ill. It’s been working ever since although I think I'm being superstitious about the whole thing.

10 How do you wind down after a show?

JB: We'll either have a drink and a post show chat or head back to the flat, cook up a pasta dish and watch Band of Brothers.

HP: Drink beer and whiskey! Or red wine and Band of Brothers. Flash!
11 What do you love about Scotland?

JB: There are still so many castles that haven't been destroyed by the baddies in Game of Thrones.

HP: The Fringe?

12 What do you like about Edinburgh?

JB: Black Medicine cafe, The Brass Monkey and The Meadows. The 'holy trinity' of the Fringe experience if you will.

HP: The Fringe?

13 What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve done?

JB: I've eaten Haggis, I'm not going so far as to say I enjoyed it (sorry!) but I have actually eaten Haggis.

HP: Drank lots of whiskey over a sustained period of time

14 What kind of jokes do a Scottish crowd seem to respond to?

JB: This may be really breaking down the cultural barriers here but I don't think a Scottish crowd differs that much to a British one! They like the funny jokes; we just need to make sure they're funny!

HP: Ones about whiskey.

15 Favourite joke?

JB: The one with the three men and the dog and yellow spade. It's my favourite!

HP: Stewart Francis - My girlfriend thinks I'm incapable of being faithful, my wife on the other hand...

16 Favourite Scottish food/drink?

JB: It's got to be Dundee cake (and it's definitely not going to be Haggis )

HP: Whiskey. Did I mention that I like whiskey?

Goodbear (Joe Barnes and Henry Perryment) perform their new sketch show at the Bedlam Theatre until August 28.
