1 Tell us about your Fringe show
I have two shows.
‘The Simpsons taught me everything I know’ has facts, impersonations and stories about the world’s best sitcom, including the story of how I ALMOST got to work on the show!
‘Comedians Against Humanity’ where audience members wielding Cards Against Humanity cards generate suggestions for guest comedians to improvise material on.
2 Best thing about the Fringe?
It’s how you imagine the most fun city on Earth would be, but for a month.
3 Worst thing about the Fringe?
The amount of shows I don’t have time to see!
4 How many years have you been coming to the Fringe?
This is my 14th year. In Fringe years, I’m hitting that angsty teen stage.
5 Favourite Fringe venue?
C-Venues! Any C-Venue! Just kidding. I do have a soft spot for a Spiegeltent and I have a lot of good comedy memories in the Canons’ Gait.
6 Best Fringe memory?
Having 400 people come to see my show at the EICC when I booked it out as part of my show ‘Think Big’.
7 Best heckle?
At one gig in a gay bar one guy complained to the compere that I did ‘Heterosexual Australian Comedy’ I’ve tried doing homosexual Bavarian comedy, but it suffers from lack of experience.
8 Craziest on stage experience?
I wore a corset once for a challenge. I have never felt as constricted in the chest and can’t imagine I will again until my third heart attack.
9 What’s on your rider?
Rider? I’m doing the Free Fringe. My rider is a repurposed nightclub, hesitant punters and a empty but hopeful bucket.
10 How do you wind down after a show?
Variously, a beer, a walk, another show. Mary’s ice cream is nice too!
11 What do you love about Scotland?
Great history, distinctive, proud and fun culture and down to earth people. You can’t name many uppity Scots.
12 What do you like about Edinburgh?
It’s a beautiful city that hosts the best arts festival in the world, plus it really helps me to appreciate the food in Australia when I go home.
13 What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve done?
I’m considering leaving the UK in the wake of Brexit. Does that count?
14 What kind of jokes do a Scottish crowd seem to respond to?
The same as usual people, but they’re a bit less uptight about most things. But if you’re in a hole, slagging off the Tories and the English won’t hurt.
15 Favourite joke?
Just one? C’mon, that’s like asking a journalist their favourite word!
16 Favourite Scottish food/drink?
I do like a fine peaty scotch whisky.
Yianni: The SImpsons Taught Me Everything I know is on at the PBH Free Fringe Voodoo Rooms until August 28.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
