Bella Younger’s talsk about her new show, Deliciously Stella.
1 Tell us about your Fringe show
So its basically a parody on the 'wellness' craze that's got everybody drinking green juices and doing yoga on the beach like its going out of fashion. My character deliciously Stella is desperate to become one of the wellness tribe but she just can't seem to stick to a healthy diet and everything she tries goes wrong.
2 Best thing about the Fringe?
Everyone always wants to have fun all the time
3 Worst thing about the Fringe?
I'm. So. Tired.
4 How many years have you been coming to the Fringe?
I'm from Edinburgh so I've been going to Fringe shows for about 25 years
5 Favourite Fringe venue?
Has to be the Pleasance. Its the first established venue I've performed in and I love my space in Below.
6 Best Fringe memory?
When my mother accidentally booked my 14-year-old friends and I to see puppetry of the penis thinking they were using balloons. In fact I witnessed a middle aged Australian make a wind sail out of his scrotum.
7 Best heckle?
I have genuinely never been heckled. I know my time will come.
8 Craziest on stage experience?
Once a stray dog found its way into the cafe I was performing in. It walked right onto the stage and sniffed my leg. That was the biggest laugh of the night.
9 What’s on your rider?
Granola bars. I run out of energy around 40 minutes in if I'm not stocked up with grains.
10 How do you wind down after a show?
I walk home, have a cup of tea and go to bed. I'm a bit of a nan.
11 What do you love about Scotland?
That it's home.
12 What do you like about Edinburgh?
The moments when you realise that your journey is down, rather than uphill.
13 What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve done?
Delivered 'address to a haggis' by Robert Burns to an actual Haggis before setting it on fire.
14 What kind of jokes do a Scottish crowd seem to respond to?
Dirty ones.
15 Favourite joke?
You'll have to come and see my show for that
16 Favourite Scottish food/drink?
Lorne sausage. Forever and always.
Bella Younger’s: Deliciously Stella is on at Pleasance Courtyard(Venue 33) until August 28.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
