Where It Hurts is on at Summerhall - TechCube, from August 3 - 26 (except Mondays).
Director Jeremy Weller, of the Edinburgh based company Grassmarket Project answers our questions.
- What is your Fringe show about?
Where it hurts...is about people and the NHS. The people on the stage all have stories to tell about their experiences of seeking help from the NHS, staff from the NHS are also in the show, alongside people who are training with NHS, who all tell their stories. All are untrained actors.
- How many times/many years have you appeared at the Fringe?
This is my ninth time.
- What’s your most memorable moment from the Fringe?
Watching Terry Rigby the star of my first play 'Glad' (1990) on the first night of the play, reciting Shakespeare and telling the audience about his life. Terry had never acted before and had lived in homeless hostels for nearly 30 years.
- What’s the worst thing about the Fringe?
The rain.
- If you were not a performer what would you be doing?
Not sure, probably a complete drop out as I was before I discovered Art.
- How do you prepare for a performance?
Rehearse and then rehearse again.
- Favourite thing about being in Edinburgh?
Most things, I live here with my family.
- What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve ever done?
My son was born here, does that count?
- Favourite Scottish food/drink?
Porridge.
- Sum up your show in three words
NHS is ours!
Show summary
The NHS saves lives. It's there when no-one else is. A group of Edinburgh residents, carers and health professionals are invited to audition for a new play which examines their experiences of seeking and providing care in the NHS. 18 local people share and present personal stories of resilience, suffering and hope. The play provides a rare insight into the lives of those who are desperate for help and the struggle that NHS staff have in providing that help. Politically charged true-life drama directed by Jeremy Weller.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
