The Harmonium Project, a free outdoor animated performance that lit up the city’s key concert hall, to celebrate 50 years of the Edinburgh Festival Chorus, attracted 19,500 people.
The crowd watched the free projected lightshow designed by 59 Productions projected on the Usher Hall whilst listening to John Adams’ choral work Harmonium.
The music was recorded by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Edinburgh Festival Chorus, conducted by Peter Oundjian.

Leading Scottish writer James Robertson, pictured, has given his support to activists campaigning to save sixteen libraries threatened with closure across Fife. Speaking to an audience of over 100 concerned residents at the local Salvation Army Hall in Glenrothes, the author of And the Land Lay Still and The Testament of Gideon Mack expressed his support for the Keep Fife's Libraries Open Campaign.
Fife Cultural Trust (FCT), who receive a management fee from Fife Council of over £8million per year to run cultural services, including libraries across Fife, have proposed the closures as part of a cost-saving exercise. The Trust presented proposals to Fife’s Executive Committee on June 23 and councillors are due to make a decision on the future for these sixteen libraries at the meeting on September 29.
The Keep Fife’s Libraries Open Campaign was started by local Markinch resident Bryce Sutherland who has described libraries as a “lifeline”.
Anyone interested in how they can get involved in campaigning in their local area should contact Keep Fife’s Libraries Open.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
