Carnegie Hall in Dunfermline has announced its autumn series of jazz and roots music concerts. Oregon Americana quintet Betty & The Boy open the programme on September 12 with popular Scottish duo Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham (18), pictured, slotting in between jazz singers Tina May (16) and Ben Cox (29).
October’s attractions are European folk band Himmerland (8), saxophone and piano duo Tommy Smith & Brian Kellock (18), South African pianist Philip Clouts’s quartet (28), Canadian band Fish & Bird (20), and female folk group The Shee (31).

Saxophonist and clarinettist Dick Lee is giving a series of illustrated talks on The Blues, starting on Tuesday September 29 and running for ten weeks, at Edinburgh University’s Office of Lifelong Learning in Paterson’s Land, Holyrood Road. The talks begin at 1pm and cover the history of the music from its 19th century beginnings to the present day with audio and visual clips and live examples by Lee.
The same venue is also the setting for Lee’s one-day course on the history of jazz in Scotland, which takes place on Friday September 25 from 10am to 4pm.

One of the country's leading photographers, Martin Parr, will judge the Photographic Competition and Exhibition to be held in Rothesay Pavilion as part of this month's Closing Weekend Festival. Budding photographers should submit an image which captures 'Rothesay Pavilion' or 'Scottish/Seaside Modernity' to the pavilion's social media pages with the hashtag #pavphoto. The best will be printed for display at the exhibition before Parr chooses the winning entry.
The winner will then receive £100 cash and be invited to stage a solo show in one of the purpose-built exhibition spaces when the redeveloped Pavilion reopens in 2017.
The Closing Weekend Festival, which runs from September 25-27, also features music from Orkestra Del Sol and Woodenbox, devised drama Pavilion People, and the launch of new music project #ROTHESAYLIVE.

Local rock heroes Twin Atlantic have been announced as the final headliners for the DR Martens Stand For Something Tour 2015. They will play the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds on October 24 while the Scottish date on the tour – at Nice n Sleazy in Glasgow on September 26 – will see Dutch Uncles headline with up-and-coming alt-rockers United Fruit as hometown support.
