MOBO Award-winning pianist Zoe Rahman plays two solo concerts in Scotland this month. Chichester-born Rahman, whose music is inspired by her Bangali background and other influences from around the world, studied at Berklee School of Music in Boston, where she had lessons with one of America’s leading pianists, JoAnne Brackeen. In 2006, her album Melting Pot was shortlisted for the Mercury Music Award and she won the MOBO Album of the Year title for Kindred Spirits in 2012. She released her sixth album, Dreamland, last year and will feature music from it when she appears at the Tolbooth in Stirling on Friday, September 22 and at Catstrand in New Galloway on Saturday, September 23.

POLLOK House Arts Society begins its fifty-eighth season of classical music recitals on Sunday, October 8 when guitarist Ian Watt and violist Paul Livingston appear in the 18th century house in Pollok Park’s intimate library. Aberdeenshire-born Watt and Livingston, from Perth, regularly perform together internationally and as well as giving performances, Watt has given masterclasses in Germany, Hungary and the Czech Republic and at the Central Conservatory in Beijing.

LEITH Folk Club has announced its full autumn programme. Traditional singers Sheena Wellington, Barbara Dymock and Iona Fyfe appear on September 12, September 19 and October 10 respectively. Irish singer, songwriter and peace activist Tommy Sands and Scottish fiddler Ryan Young are also among the guests between now and mid-December. All concerts take place in Victoria Park House Hotel on Ferry Road, Edinburgh and begin at 8:00pm.

GLASGOW Gaelic music promoters Ceol’s Craic take inspiration from Nashville’s Grand Old Opry with their latest monthly presentation, Oidhche Americana, at the CCA in Sauchiehall Street on Saturday, September 23. The programme will feature special guest, Mary Jean Lewis, niece of country and rock ‘n’ roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis along with South Uist singer Gillebride MacMillan, singer and actress Mairi Morrison and Dol Eoin MacKinnon’s tribute to the late Uist troubadour, Tom Sloss. Glasgow’s Eriskay Ponies will act as the house band as well as playing original songs and Gaelic interpretations of country music classics.
