One of the most popular plays by the National Theatre of Scotland has now impressed the Big Apple.
The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart, written by David Greig and directed by Wils Wilson, has received glowing reviews and now its run has been extended beyond its originally planned ten weeks.
The show, which has been set in series of non-traditional venues since its inception, is being staged at the McKittrick Hotel in New York, in its bar and music venue, The Heath.
The show will now run until February 28, 2017.
The show garnered critical praise from the New York Times as well as other publications following its opening on December 13.
The NYT said: "this gleeful import from the National Theater of Scotland, does transport you into infernal eternity. It turns out to be a swell place for a hibernal vacation" while another review in Theater Mania said: "Greig's playful use of language and magpie instinct toward mythology results in an enchanting story that will stay with you for days after".
The show has toured widely since 2011 for the theatre company (NTS), with stagings in four continents, nine countries and more than 50 different venues.
A site-specific show, it has been staged in, the company says, "taverns and pubs, breweries, village halls and studios with bars built in."
The McKittrick Hotel is also the home of Sleep No More, Punchdrunk Theatre Company’s site-specific take on Macbeth.
The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart will be performed concurrently with Sleep No More, which continues its performance run at the venue.
The full cast currently playing in New York is Annie Grace, Melody Grove, Alasdair Macrae, Peter Hannah and Paul McCole
The NTS has had several productions in New York.
It took perhaps its most famous production, Black Watch, to the St Ann's Warehouse in the autumn of 2007.
It has also staged The Wolves in the Walls, The Bacchae, Beautiful Burnout, Let the Right One In and Macbeth.
Venues have included the Lincoln Center, the New Victory Theater and the Barrymore Theater.
The show takes the form of a 'lock in' and an evening of supernatural storytelling inspired by the Border Ballads, Robert Burns and the poems of Robert Service.
In the play, Prudencia Hart, an uptight academic, sets off to attend a conference in Kelso in the Scottish Borders.
David Greig, who wrote the play, is now the Artistic Director of the Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh.
