THE FULL programme for Hidden Door Festival 2017, taking place May 26 to June 4, has been announced.
The multi arts festival will this year take place in the old Leith Theatre in Leith, Edinburgh with 10 days and nights of music, theatre, visual art, film and spoken word bringing the venue back to life. Derelict for 28 years, Hidden Door hopes to provide the "initial spark to get this art deco gem back up and running" as a major Edinburgh arts venue, a campaign whose patron is the writer Irvine Welsh.
The festival will be free to explore every day until 6pm, with tickets now on sale for the evening events. Music acts include the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) award winner Anna Meredith, dance/electro duo Bossy Love, alt-pop duo Bdy_Prts, Marnie (of Ladytron), Idlewild, and Hamish Hawk. Theatre company Grid Iron will premiere a brand new work in progress whilst Ludens Ensemble return with new performance 'Love' based on Shakespeare's Sonnets.
More than 20 artists have been selected from an open call to exhibit at Hidden Door 2017 alongside 11 invited artists. They will utilise many areas of the old Leith Theatre with work including sculpture, sound, performance art and video.

SOME of Scotland's leading craft artists have made over £100,000 of sales in three days at the American Craft Show in Baltimore, Maryland.
Craft Scotland has said its partnership with American Craft Council (ACC), which saw a group of 20 makers and designers based in Scotland sell to North American customers at the American Craft Show in Baltimore in February, was a success. Some of the Scottish makers involved have secured contracts with galleries in the US, have had invitations to further industry shows and for some secured US gallery representation for their work.
Craft Scotland Director Fiona Logue said: "It was clear that there was a fresh and contemporary design aesthetic on the Scotland stand which along with the quality of the craftsmanship, really made it stand out and attract attention."
The American Craft Show Baltimore 2017 was a five-day show: with two days for trade, followed by three retail days where the show is open for the public.

A NEW alternative stand-up comedy night is starting in Glasgow. Light Bulb – An Alternative Comedy Showcase, begins on April 11 at Blackfriars in the Merchant City.
The show will run monthly and the first lineup includes Nev and Gemma Flynn.
In addition the venue is holding two improv nights, one an open mic night called a jam, the other is the Glasgow Harold Night, based on show format organiser Martin James saw at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles.
The next Harold Night is during Glasgow Comedy Festival on March 14.
