The Moorside (BBC1, 9pm)

Drama telling the story of the disappearance of nine-year-old Shannon Matthews from the Moorside Estate in Dewsbury. Emotional public appeals for information from her mother Karen Matthews amount to nothing, and the community, led by Julie Bushby, stand by her and make extraordinary efforts of their own to find Shannon. Despite the support, doubts are beginning to creep in for some regarding Karen's behaviour, and friend and neighbour Natalie Brown struggles with her conscience as she becomes convinced that Karen knows more than she is revealing. Sheridan Smith, Sian Brooke and Gemma Whelan star.

Secret Life of Dogs (ITV, 9pm)

They are known as man's best friend, but just what is it about dogs that makes them such perfect companions, especially when they are descended from a predator like the wolf? Martin Clunes narrates this new series which investigates the science behind the relationship between humans and canines, and also brings viewers some remarkable stories about pooches and their owners. In the first episode, we follow Labrador puppy Tweed, who, like all young dogs, was born with the instinct to make eye contact, which has helped to form an instant bond between the pup and a young boy named Loki.

Secrets of the National Trust with Alan Titchmarsh (C5, 9pm)

As his series on Capability Brown proved, Alan Titchmarsh is the perfect guide to some of Britain's most remarkable houses and gardens. So who better to host this new series, in which he reveals treasures hidden throughout the National Trust? Alan starts with Knole in Kent, once one of the most sought after palaces in the country. Plus, Joan Bakewell follows some of the priceless paintings from Knole to a leading art conservation studio, and Miriam O'Reilly examines one of the largest collections of dinosaur tracks ever found in the UK.
