Hunterian puts the spotlight on Mackintosh

A new show, Mackintosh Architecture, at The Hunterian Gallery in Glasgow, is the first major exhibition in recent times to be devoted to Charles Rennie Mackintosh's architectural work.

It features more than 80 architectural drawings from The Hunterian and collections across the UK.

The exhibition has a particular focus on his designs for homes and is the result of a four-year research project led by The Hunterian.

Mackintosh Architecture opens on July 18 and will run until January 4 next year.

Residents get call to dig in

Edinburgh's council is calling for residents to help excavate the former site of a historic building in Saughton Park.

The park, which formed part of the ancient Saughton Estate, had its own mansion house referred to as Sauch, which is thought to date back to at least the early 17th century. Amateur archeologists are being sought to explore the foundations of the site.

The excavation will form part of the Saughton Park Restoration Project which is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Volunteers are being encouraged to sign up to an informal talk on May 15 at 7pm in the Saughton Winter Gardens when professionals from AOC Archaeology Group will talk about the history of Saughton Hall and how to get involved.
