The fans certainly know how to give it, to the tune of about £25 per game, and Artur Boruc knows how to take it to the tune of probably £25,000 per week.

We have all seen outfield players booked for over-celebrating. I have even seen Rudi Skacel booked for leaving the field of play (by about six inches) after scoring against Celtic.

We have all seen the Holy Goalie winding up opposition supporters and usually it's a laugh, but why should he get special treatment from referees when outfield players would certainly be booked for the same behaviour?

  • Artur Boruc's sustained taunting of the Hibs support after the game on Saturday was downright odd and well-deserved his belated booking after the officials ignored his antics for a strangely long time while he did a lap of dishonour.

They also ignored his obscene gesture after he had been booked. If nothing else, it showed he was still smarting from the ridicule he got at Easter Road when he was Hibs 12th man last time out.

I hope Gordon Strachan's complaints about the booking are no more than over-reaction in the immediate aftermath as he really needs to think carefully about Boruc's temperament.

Putting record straight
In Doug Gillon's otherwise fascinating commentary (The Archive, March 3) on the life and cricketing statistics of Sir Garfield Sobers, one point calls for correction. The Australian Wally Grout was a wicketkeeper not a bowler and certainly known for his his strong vocalised appeals.

Sadly, ATW Grout died in 1968 at the age of 41 having represented his country on 52 occasions, claiming 187 dismissals, including Gary Sobers, in an illustrious career.
