Scottish education is in a state of flux. Significant reforms of the school curriculum and new exams could bring vast improvements to classroom learning, but many warn the Curriculum for Excellence is insufficiently resourced and won’t deliver the intended benefits. School cuts also threaten the education system while, in the independent sector, private schools face further challenges to their charitable status. In higher education, universities have kept their heads above water with a good financial settlement, but how long can the good times last? Colleges are already feeling the bite with cuts to teaching grants and widespread mergers. In this blog, I'll be exploring all the above issues and more.
