Hope springs eternal after these magnificent 12 days of sport we have had in Glasgow. The 2014 Commonwealth Games are now expected to be the golden goose, giving birth to a great new age of sport in this country.
There was a simple reason for this. I've intended to watch these Games as a spectator, not a reporter. I wanted to join in the public experience and, for once, leave my pen and notepad at home.
In the Merchant City area, where bars and cafes spilled out on to the pavements, people were sipping coffees and things stronger - and more fizzy - as I bounced up and down off kerbs and weaved my way passed.
But as things stand, with just one full day of competition gone, these Commonwealth Games of 2014 in Glasgow have been absolutely heaven-sent.
If you are bored any afternoon, just step into the centre of Glasgow. All of life is there: cool young kids, deadbeats, bustling businessmen of intent, some seriously sexy women. And noise…plenty noise.
