Wimbledon's favourite snack is to get a savoury twist with the launch of a limited- edition sausage that allows hungry tennis fans to combine two summer food favourites: strawberries and cream and barbecued meat.
The Berry Banger serves up an ace by combining strawberries, creme fraiche and mint with sausage.
It will be available during the two weeks of Wimbledon so that those torn between a fruity treat and a mouthwatering banger will be able to have their sausage and eat it.
The unusual taste sensation is the brainchild of supermarket chain Waitrose, who say the new sausages are a great alternative to more familiar choices like pork and apple.
Anna Lloyd, Waitrose sausage buyer, comments: "Brits love tennis and strawberries and cream have become accepted as an integral part of the festivities.
"We wanted to embrace the flavour of the season and the Berry Banger was the perfect answer."
"Our limited-edition sausages always create a bit of theatre at the counter and never fail to put a smile on customers' faces. We hope they'll be a big hit this summer."
The Berry Banger costs £5.99 a kilo, about 45p a sausage, and is available from selected Waitrose stores.
