I never tire of talking about it and will always look back on the occasions with pride, even though we ultimately went out. Playing for Scotland as we beat England in the last meeting at the old Wembley is something which will stay with me forever. If we had turned around the tie and made it to Euro 2000, I honestly believe it would have been the biggest result in Scottish football history, better than anything Denis Law or Kenny Dalglish managed.
He was entertaining, never scared to speak his mind, not just your run-of-the-mill manager. But for me he got far too carried away with himself.
There is no doubt he had some magnificent successes with Kilmarnock – he won the Scottish Communities League Cup in 2012, and last season he had some great results again.
Okay, so there was the disappointment of squandering a great chance to finish in the top six, but at least that was balanced by the kids he was bringing through.
