VAT increase likely to hike Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games bill by £20m

IT will be days before the budget dust settles and the full implications are known.

We all knew the medicine to treat the ills of the economy would be unpalatable. But raising VAT to 20%, driving up costs for every sport, and the certainty of increased leisure-facility entry charges, is hardly calculated to encourage greater physical activity.
