The master of the Maryhill memoir has turned his focus to fiction, with his second novel, which he reads from in this clip, released this month.

After a varied career that began in the RAF and included stints working for an electric company and as prison officer, Robert Douglas began writing when he was in his mid-fifties - warmly, and successfully, recounting his early life in Glasgow and beyond.

He speaks to Herald Scotland at the launch of his new book, Staying on Past the Terminus, which is set in a 1960s Glasgow tenement, at the end of an era for the city's trams.

The interview takes place on the steps of a tram heading for 'Douglas Street', now on display at Glasgow's new Riverside Transport Museum.
