A post-Creative Scotland

DON PATERSON,  the award-winning  Scottish poet and editor, has written a powerful critique of national arts agency Creative Scotland. Here we publish it in full:     

The C-word

I have yet to meet one single serious artist who does not privately hold the word ‘creative’ in anything but contempt. While artists self-evidently are ‘creative’, they don’t regard themselves as such, because they know self-consciousness is the death of art; this is why Creative Scotland sounds like a country thoroughly uncertain if it is.
