American novelist Chris Adrian is a paediatrician and author of two previous novels that demonstrate his interest in magical realism and divinity. The Children's Hospital doesn't just deal with the medical life, but literally with the end of the world. What begins as an ordinary storm escalates into the Apocalypse, leaving the entire Earth seven miles below water. A hospital for sick kids becomes a drifting ship, stamped with the irony that the only survivors of the end of the world are seriously ill.
