LOGISTICS and freight firm Norbert Dentressangle has invested an undisclosed sum in a clean room for white glove-packing activities for luxury items in Scotland.

The 6500 square feet facility at Eurocentral opened recently and was purpose-designed for premium products that need careful handling, such as high-end whisky.

It is situated within the contract packing area of Norbert Dentressangle's site, which runs as a joint venture with procurement and supply-chain firm RESCU Solutions.

That provides services such as repacking from large to smaller cases; preparing gift sets; adding ribbons or seals; and decorating glass bottles.

High-profile customers include whisky firms Glenmorangie and Whyte & Mackay, plus drinks distributor Maxxium.

Norbert Dentressangle said the addition of the clean room should lead to staff numbers in the contract packing arm increasing beyond the current 70.

Gerard Friel, Norbert Dentressangle's account director for Scotland, said: "In partnership with RESCU, our contract packing operation has grown rapidly over the past three years as we have expanded our customer base and the range of services we provide. The new clean room represents an important addition to our capabilities."

Norbert Dentressangle, founded in London in 1979 but now with its headquarters in France, operates seven main sites in Scotland with 150 vehicles, 300 trailers and 1650 staff.

It recently had its warehousing contract for Morrisons in Scotland renewed for a further two years.

Earlier this month Phil Shaw, formerly director of packed chemicals and manufacturing, was announced as the new head of the UK logistics division.
