Prime-stock sales were disrupted this week as a result of Christmas Day falling on a Tuesday.

John Swan held their weekly sale in St Boswells on Friday last week, instead of the customary Monday.

The 22 prime bullocks forward sold to 230p per kg and averaged 209p (-2.8p on the week), while 20 prime heifers peaked at 230p and levelled at 217.1p (+5.9p).

In the rough ring, 24 beef-type OTM cattle averaged 111p.

The firm also sold 1320 prime lambs to a top of £90 per head and 189.7p per kg to average 152.7p (+5.4p), while 208 cast sheep levelled at £54.87.

Lawrie and Symington held their weekly sale on Saturday last week, instead of Monday, when 1523 prime lambs sold to £90.50 and 205.7p to average 154.4p.

The 300 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £104.50 for Texels and £68.50 for Blackfaces.
