Glasgow Chamber of Commerce has tapped into the city's key education and creative industries sectors as it makes five new appointments to its ruling council.

Among the new directors are Professor Andrea Nolan, senior vice-principal of Glasgow University, John Wilson the executive dean of Caledonian University, and Suzanne Burns, who is a director at STV.

Weir Group's head of learning and development Jim McHarg and Murray Recruitment owner Lauren Murray, chairman of Junior Chamber International, also join the Chamber Council.

Varry McMenemy, managing director of Bellcom Worldwide, enters a second year as chamber president, as does her deputy Vic Emery, chairman of the new Scottish Police Authority and former managing director at BAE Systems.
