Law firm boosts tax team
LAW firm Gillespie Macandrew has hired Gordon Foster, pictured, as an associate in its private client tax team.
Mr Foster has specialised in advising clients on tax-related issues since qualifying as a solicitor with MacRoberts in Edinburgh. He went on to work with Dundas & Wilson for seven years, spending five in London, and most recently ran his own practice in East Lothian.
John MacArthur, who heads the private client tax team at Gillespie Macandrew, said: "Gordon's experience will dovetail extremely well with our other team members' skills.
"He has considerable knowledge of advising clients on corporate taxation, Stamp Duty Land Tax (soon to be replaced by Land and Buildings Transaction Tax in Scotland) and real estate taxation issues and, in particular, this will help us to continue developing our portfolio of work assisting family and entrepreneurial businesses."
Santander appoints business specialist
SANTANDER has appointed Geoff O'Brien, pictured, as its new business development director for the west of Scotland.
Mr O'Brien, who will be based at the bank's corporate business centre in Glasgow, will specialise in working with local businesses that turn over between £250,000 and £50 million. He will be responsible for building new customer relationships as the bank looks to expand further across Scotland.
Mr O'Brien joins an expanding team in Glasgow, which includes sector and product specialists in real estate, healthcare, education, asset, invoice and trade finance. He previously worked for Clydesdale Bank and Heineken and has many years' experience working in the Scottish financial and hospitality sectors.

Shepherd strengthens surveying team
SHEPHERD chartered surveyors has appointed Ewan Wyllie, pictured, to lead its building consultancy department in Glasgow and throughout the west of Scotland.
Mr Wyllie brings a wealth of experience to the role, having worked for major surveying firms in Scotland and London. His appointment takes Shepherd's expanding team of building surveyors to 12 in Scotland, with the firm pledging to boost its ranks further in the coming months.
Mr Wyllie said: "This appointment represents a significant development in my career. I'm delighted to join Shepherd's busy Glasgow office and look forward to providing our expanding client base."
Steve Barnett, commercial partner at Shepherd in Glasgow, said: "Ewan's wealth of experience enhances our building surveying offering throughout the west of Scotland, adding to our comprehensive multi-disciplinary property service."
