Mr Hoellinger, who succeeds Paul Skipworth, was latterly marketing strategy director for the group's wine and spirits business. He previously served as Glenmorangie's international marketing and communication director from 2008 to 2011.

Mr Hoeollinger said: "I am delighted to return to Scotland in what are exciting times for the Scotch whisky industry, and the Ardbeg and Glenmorangie brands in particular.

"I feel privileged to be steering a company with over 170 years of tradition that is now a truly global business producing some of the world's best single malts and employing a passionate, enthusiastic workforce. I intend to continue pursuing perfection in everything we do at Glenmorangie."
