Yorkshire Building Society said it had strengthened its position as a "trusted alternative" to the big banks after a record pre- tax profit of £199.3 million for last year.
The UK's second largest building society, which has 14 branches in Scotland, said gross lending was £6.8 billion, up 48%, and net lending more than trebled to £2bn.
