THE body responsible for marketing Scotland's capital city has appointed a new chairman.

Gordon Robertson, director of communications at Edinburgh Airport, has taken over the role at Marketing Edinburgh from Alan Johnston.

Mr Robertson has served on the board for several years and chaired the Marketing Edinburgh management group, which briefly led the body before chief executive John Donnelly's appointment in July.

His appointment comes as Marketing Edinburgh engages in a £1 million campaign to entice local residents to rediscover the city following the disruption caused by the tram works.

Mr Robertson said: "I'm honoured to be taking on this position at such an important time for our city.

"An exciting new chapter is under way for Marketing Edinburgh and one that is focused on making sure that the city's promotion is as cohesive, dynamic and efficient as possible.

"For the first time we have a council-approved, comprehensive three-year business strategy, clearly outlining objectives and targets for the organisation."

Mr Johnston is stepping down to focus on his roles in higher and further education.
