New partner for Pinsent Masons

XLAW firm Pinsent Masons has appointed a new partner in its Aberdeen office.

Katie Williams, pictured, who is qualified in Scots and English law, specialises in employment law relating to international shipping and marine matters.

She advises oil and gas companies engaged in offshore supply, construction, diving and drill intervention, as well as shipping companies providing safety and standby vessels in the North Sea.

Ms Williams has joined Pinsent Masons from ­ north-east firm Mackinnons, a marine and offshore law specialist, where she was the sole employment partner.

She said: "Joining Pinsent Masons provides me with an excellent platform to further develop my shipping and marine employment client base."

Four promotions at DLA Piper

X DLA Piper has announced four promotions across its corporate, real estate, litigation and regulatory and employment practices to support its growth objectives in Scotland.Alasdair Wood, who joined the law firm as a trainee in 2002, has been made partner in the corporate team. Jonathan Gaskell, left, and James McGachie have been promoted to legal directors within the real estate and litigation and regulatory practices, while Julie Simpson rises to senior associate within employment.

Tainsh becomes partner at firm

XEDINBURGH-based Davidson Chalmers has promoted environmental legal specialist Laura Tainsh, pictured, from associate to partner.

Ms Tainsh joined the law firm in 2004 and has since built up a client base covering renewable energy projects, environmental issues, rural property and estates and other aspects of commercial property development. She completed her LLM in Environmental Law in 2010, which complements her existing legal practice. The firm has also announced that Lisa Douglas and Greg Flett have been promoted to associate level. Ms Douglas joined the firm as a trainee in 2006 and specialises in corporate and commercial law.

Mr Flett advises on a range of commercial disputes including those between landlords and tenants, contract disputes and professional negligence actions.

Finance director is appointed

XHOUSEBUILDER Barratt has appointed Colin Mitchell to the post of finance director in the west of Scotland.

Mr Mitchell, who was most recently finance director at The Premier Property Group (PPG), has more than 17 years' experience in the property and financial sectors. In his new role the chartered accountant will be responsible for leading Barratt's finance department in the company's west Scotland division, reporting to the divisional board as well as to Barratt's regional and group finance teams.

David Scott, managing director of Barratt West Scotland, said: "He's already proving a strong addition as we seek to capitalise on the market's revival and deliver tangible benefits."
