MACKIE'S Crisps expects to achieve a dramatic increase in sales after clinching a deal that will see its products sold in an additional 104 Asda supermarkets in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The supply deal will result in the number of Asda stores stocking Mackie's crisps in the rest of the UK increasing from the current 70 to 174.

With Asda stores set to stock a wider range of Mackie's crisps, outlets in England and Northern Ireland will carry the company's Haggis & Cracked Black Pepper flavour offering for the first time.

George Taylor, managing director of Perthshire-based Mackie's Crisps, said the deal presented a very exciting opportunity that will allow its products to reach a much wider audience.

The 52 Asda stores in Scotland will also be stocking new varieties of Mackie's Crisps.

The company, a joint venture between ice-cream maker Mackie's and potato firm Taypack, predicted the additional listings from May 11 would allow it to increase sales in Asda stores by 90 per cent.

It expects to grow total sales by around 20 per cent in the year to June 30, compared with the preceding year. The company said the deal with Asda, together with growth in export markets, is expected to see turnover rise by a further 30 per cent in the year to June 2015.

In October last year Mr Taylor said he believed the venture could build turnover from £4.6 million to £35 million by 2020.

Earlier this week Mackie's Crisps announced a 506 per cent leap in export sales to Canada.

The company said its Scottish provenance had been a key selling point in Canada, one of around 20 export markets in which it sells.

Mackie's Crisps, launched in 2009, is currently producing 200,000 packs of crisps a week. It employs 30 people.
