The Athletes' Village built for this summer's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow has won a special prize in this year's Homes for Scotland Awards, in a ceremony in Edinburgh on Friday that celebrated the theme of revival.
Mactaggart & Mickel, which developed the Clydeside site in Dalmarnock along with CCG and Cruden Homes, also scooped the top award for Home Builder of the Year for the second year running.
Sir Muir Russell, the chairman of industry body NHBC's Scottish Committee who headed the judging panel, said: "With a number of encouraging market signals beginning to lift confidence throughout the home-building sector, this cautious optimism is reflected throughout the volume of quality submissions entered into the 2014 awards scheme.
"My fellow judges and I were unanimous in our admiration of these demonstrations of commitment to moving forward and overcoming the barriers which remain a threat to a meaningful, industry-wide recovery."
Winners in other categories included: best employer: Springfield Properties; best customer service initiative: Springfield Homes; best large development: Miller Homes for Dalmore Mill, Auchendinny; best medium development: Mactaggart and Mickel for Polnoon, Eaglesham; best small development: Kirkwood Homes for Westburn Crescent Aberdeen. The best supporting company was Link Housing Association, and employee of the year was Ann Wojcick of Springfield Properties.
Stewart Milne was presented with a Lifetime Achievement award for his outstanding contribution to championing the aims of the industry in Scotland.
As well as Sir Muir, judges included Tom Barclay, chairman of RICS Scotland; Ian Gilzean, chief architect of the Scottish Government; Malcolm Macleod, chairman of Heads of Planning Scotland, Keith Winter of SOLACE, and Colin Donald, Sunday Herald business editor.
