LAWRIE & Symington Ltd sold 220 store heifers in Lanark on Tuesday to a top of 259p per kg and an average of 215.2p, while 179 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 269.5p and levelled at 226.5p.

Forty-nine store, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 175p and averaged 142.9p.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 152 prime hoggs in Newton Stewart yesterday to a top of £94 per head and 209p per kg to average 185p (-13p on the week), while 222 prime lambs peaked at £122 and 273.7p to level at 245p (+16.4p). A small show of 92 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £107 for a Beltex and £70 for Blackfaces. The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart sold 27 prime heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 236.5p and an average of 220.6p.

There were 68 cattle presented in the rough ring when beef cows averaged 133.8p and dairy cows levelled at 104.2p.

The firm also sold 108 prime hoggs to a top of £81.50 and 224p to average 212p (+7.2p), while 32 prime lambs peaked at £117 and 283p to level at 270.3p (+23.7p). The 164 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £117 for a Suffolk and average £83.29, while light ewes peaked at £84.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £62.38.
