PFIZER has abandoned a plan to buy its pharmaceutical industry rival, AstraZeneca.
The US company confirmed it would not be pursuing a deal just a few hours before a Takeover Panel deadline, of 5pm yesterday, was due to expire. It means Pfizer will have to wait six months to make a fresh approach.
