Mountain Warehouse has posted record annual profits after Britain's inclement weather helped it sell more than one million waterproof jackets.
The outdoor clothing business, which runs 186 stores and employs more than 1,200 staff, said its sales of rainproof jackets lifted 22% in the past 12 months following the non-stop downpours that hit the UK last winter.
Operating profits lifted 44% to £8.2 million, on sales up 20% to £91.7 million, as it opened 23 new stores and boosted its online business in the year to February 28. The firm grew sales at its existing stores, with like-for-like sales up 13.1%.
Mountain Warehouse, founded by chief executive Mark Neale in 1997, plans to open 30 more stores in the current financial year.
This year it has opened outlets in Padstow and Market Harborough as well as in Gdansk and Zakopane in Poland.
The business said it had built on substantial investment in its website, which meant online sales jumped 130% last year.
