GLASGOW has beaten strong international competition to attract the annual conference of the World Congress of Soil Science to the city.

The event, last held in the UK in 1936, is expected to attract around 3,000 delegates when it arrives at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in 2022.

It is expected to inject more than £5.4 million into the local economy. The winning bid was delivered by Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, the SECC and the British Society of Soil Science. Cities in Italy, China and Switzerland were in the running.
