BREWDOG has further expanded its horizons by opening a bar in Florence.

The outlet is the fourth international bar to be opened by the Ellon-based brewer this year, following launches in Sao Paulo, Tokyo and Gothenburg, and its 19th overall. Further openings are slated for Rome and Bologna later this year.

Brewdog said the Florence bar is based in a historic building once owned by the Medici family during the Renaissance. It will feature 12 beers on tap, including Brewfist, Menaresta, Toccalmatto, Rogue, Mikkeller and The Kernel, as well as live music, American diner style food and a selection of dishes from Italy, Japan, Mexico, Greece and the UK.

Brewdog co-founder James Watt said: "Italy is currently through a craft beer renaissance. Although generally more famed for its winemaking than its brewing, there are now over 500 microbreweries in the country. We have seen a huge surge in demand for our beers from Italian drinkers via our online store, so we felt it was only right to shorten the distance between Italian craft beer fans and the beer they so crave by opening a bar there."

Details of the new bar were announced after Brewdog held its 2014 Punk AGM in Aberdeen last weekend.
