THE UK's trade deficit widened to £2.4 billion in May from £2.1bn in April.
There was a shortfall of £9.2bn on goods, compared with £8.8bn, but this was partly offset by an unchanged surplus of £6.8bn in services.
The wider goods deficit reflected a rise in imports, which grew by 1.7 per cent.
