The Scottish Government will be showcasing successful exporters to Australia, Singapore and India this summer in a bid to boost international trade on the back of the Commonwealth Games.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and Scottish Development International (SDI) are hosting a free forum in July in Inverness to forge stronger links with Asian and Australasian economies and help firms win over international business figures visiting Glasgow.

The agencies will provide a platform for three firms active in Commonwealth markets to highlight their export opportunities.

Biomatrix Water, based in Moray, is an ecological engineering firm which constructs floating islands, reactors and other ecological solutions for water pollution and habitat degradation. Having built its first floating island in 1991, the firm exports its products to the US, Philippines, India and China. Galen Fulford, managing partner at the firm, said Scots technology skills had the potential to be harnessed across the developed world.

Loch Ness Brewery was founded on the site of Benleva Hotel by the shores of Loch Ness, with the first test brew of real ale served in 2011. Stephen Crossland, who established the brewery and hotel with his brother Allan, has received support from SDI to visit the US, Japan and Singapore on export duties so far this year.

Dingwall-based Maclean Electrical Group provides electrical products, lighting systems and cables for hazardous working environments, exporting to the US, Europe and Australia.

Laura Robertson, development manager at HIE, said: "The combined gross domestic product of the Commonwealth is expected to grow significantly faster than the Eurozone over the next five years and Australia, Singapore and India are key."

International export specialists, as well as senior figures from the government's trade and commerce organisations, will also attend the event at Eden Court in Inverness on July 30.
