Accountancy firm appoints estates chief
JOHNSTON Carmichael has appointed Douglas Baxter as head of landed estates.
Mr Baxter joined the accountancy firm as a director earlier this year, and his farming background has helped him contribute to the development and operations of its rural practice.
Based in the firm's Perth office, he brings experience of working with some of the largest landed estates across the country.
Chief executive Sandy Manson said: "We are delighted to announce Douglas's appointment, which comes at a time when we have seen considerable growth in the work undertaken by our landed estates team.
"We know and understand the issues that landed estates are facing. Bringing Douglas into the team is key in helping Johnston Carmichael be at the forefront of this sector of our rural economy, keeping abreast of its issues and client demands."
Two added to audit and accounts team
ACCOUNTANCY firm Alexander Sloan has boosted its successful audit and accounts teams.
The firm has hired Brian Thomson as a dedicated audit manager, and Gillian Drummond to oversee its accounts service.
Mr Thomson trained with PwC after graduating from of Strathclyde University, before spending several years as an accounts and audit manager with a local mid-tier firm.
Ms Drummond has a degree in mathematics from Glasgow University and brings 10 years' experience to her role.
Senior partner Andy McBean said: "We are always on the lookout for outstanding new talent in the firm and Brian and Gillian already have impressive track records in the audit and accounts fields.
"They are both committed professionals and I am confident that the commitment and enthusiasm they bring to Alexander Sloan will create long-term benefits across our client base."
Ten join WSP in Edinburgh and Glasgow
WSP, the professional services consultant, has added 10 staff to its team across its offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The senior recruits include Charlotte Peacock, who has been appointed as senior geotechnical engineer for the group in the Scottish capital.
Ms Peacock, who joins from Wind Prospect, will manage technical and financial aspects in the group's land restoration and ground engineering team.
WSP has also appointed Andrew Smith as senior engineer and Martyn Dick as senior technician in the capital.
New recruits in Glasgow include Jamie Main, who has been hired as an associate in the firm's management advisory team. He is joined by graduate engineer Neil Allardice in the Glasgow fire team.
The company is involved with key public projects including New South Glasgow Hospital and the refurbishment of Waverley railway station in Edinburgh.
