EDRINGTON, the Glasgow-based distiller of The Macallan and Highland Park single malt Scotch whiskies, has brought an international brands and marketing veteran on to its board.

Alice Avis, who was most recently executive chair of Lumene Oy in a role in which she led an international expansion of the skincare business, has been appointed as a non-executive director of Edrington.

Her appointment comes as Ronnie Bell steps down from the distiller’s board, after 10 years as a non-executive director.

Ms Avis’s previous roles have included heading Sanctuary Spa Holdings. She was also director of marketing and e-commerce at retailer Marks & Spencer, and global brand director of Johnnie Walker.

She has a background in advertising and strategy consulting.

Edrington chief executive Ian Curle said: “We are delighted to welcome Alice to Edrington. She brings significant experience of building premium brands and the spirits business, which will be extremely valuable in supporting the continued growth of the company.”

Mr Curle added: “I would also like to thank Ronnie Bell for his valuable counsel and support during a period in which Edrington transformed from a largely Scottish-based organisation to an international premium brands company.”

Edrington, which employs more than 2,300 people and also produces The Famous Grouse, is owned by The Robertson Trust. This charitable trust donated more than £18.2 million to a variety of causes in the year to March 2015.
