Law firm Davidson Chalmers has appointed an accountant as its new chief operating officer.

Gordon Tainton joins the Edinburgh firm from software company PayWizard.

He has also held financial roles at Sky and RMD Group.r Tainton said: “I’m looking forward to working with Davidson Chalmers and helping the firm move forward to achieve even greater success.”

Andrew Chalmers, managing partner at Davidson Chalmers, said: “It’s a great coup to have recruited someone with Gordon’s considerable financial and management expertise.

“He will be able to add another dimension to how we effectively manage and structure our business going forward.”

The National Trust for Scotland has hired Mark Bishop to be its head of development.

Most recently he spent more than six years as director of fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK.

Prior to that he held roles as head of corporate fundraising at Leonard Cheshire Disability and also worked for Sky Television and publisher HarperCollins.

Simon Skinner, chief executive of NTS Scotland, said: “We have already announced target of raising an additional £46 million over the next ten years to fuel the existing conservation objectives we have in place – but we must and we will go beyond this with new and much more ambitious fundraising programmes.

“Mark will be responsible for designing a new strategy that will enable us to launch fresh appeals and campaigns both at home and abroad. The money raised will be the catalyst for transformational efforts to conserve and promote the best of Scottish heritage for the benefit of current and future generations.”

Mr Bishop, a Stirling University graduate, said: “I am particularly looking forward to playing a part in building a movement of committed supporters who care about Scotland’s heritage: I want to help people appreciate just how wonderful the places cared for by the Trust are.”

Accountancy firm Johnston Carmichael has appointed Gemma Spiers as its new marketing director.

Ms Spiers will be primarily based in the firm’s Edinburgh office but report to chief executive Sandy Manson.

She was most recently marketing strategy lead for Deloitte across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Mr Manson said: “The appointment of an experienced professional of Gemma’s calibre highlights our on-going progression as a thriving and ambitious firm which is keen to invest in quality people.

“She brings with her a wealth of experience and a real passion for corporate marketing that will help us amplify the Johnston Carmichael brand and support the continued growth of our business throughout Scotland.”

Fairmont St Andrews, the five-star golf resort based on the Fife coast, has appointed John Keating as general manager.

Mr Keating has worked in the hospitality industry for more than 30 years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role.

His career has included roles in hotel operations and openings in luxury properties and brands around the world. Management stints in Lucknam Park and Bath Spa, in the UK, were followed by eight years in Asia with CCA International in five-star resorts and golf clubs in China, Indonesia, Taiwan and Russia.

More recently he has held the posts of general manager at Sandals Emerald Bay, Bahamas, and Cameron House, Loch Lomond, and also managed Brocket Hall, a prestigious resort in the home counties.

He joins Fairmont St Andrews from his most recent position as director of operations for Palmerston Hotels & Resorts Europe.

Mr Keating studied at the Thames Valley University, London, completed his hotel management training at the Ritz Hotel, and is a master restaurateur.

He said: “I’m delighted to be returning to Scotland to such a prestigious property. I’m looking forward the future development plans at the resort.”
