Top prices and averages for selected breeds of store lambs: Suffolks to £58.50 and averaged £53.90 for 549; Texels £57.20 and £52.31 for 305; Mules £53 and £48.18 for 180; Cheviots £53.80 and £49.10 for 92.

Feeding and correct ewes sold to £65 for Cheviots and £48 for Mules to average £41.43 for 119.

The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart sold 79 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 305.6p per kg and an average of 206.9p (+1p on the fortnight), while 159 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 261.4p and levelled at 213.6p (-14.5p). Thirty-four store, B&W bullocks sold to 193.3p and averaged 176.7p (+14.7p), while 14 store bulls peaked at 321.9p and levelled at 206.4p.

John Swan Ltd sold 55 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 245p and an average of 224.3p (-0.7p on the week), while 27 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 246p and levelled at 222.1p (-6.7p). Seven prime bulls sold to 201p and averaged 153.7p.

In the rough ring 44 beef-type cows averaged 120.4p.

The firm also sold 1863 prime lambs to a top of £83 per head and 173p per kg to average £61.58 and 144p (-4p).

The 573 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £97 for Texels and average £62.71, while light ewes peaked at £73 for Cheviots and levelled at £47.13.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 24 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 234.5p and an average of 209.1p (no change), while 9 prime bullocks peaked at 240.5p and levelled at 209.5p (+12.1p). Thirty-five prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 222.5p and averaged 185.2p (+1.2p), while 48 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 167.5p and levelled at 139p (-0.3p).

In the rough ring 77 beef cows averaged 131.8p (+2.8p) and 186 dairy cows levelled at 98.3p (+3.5p). Eleven bulls averaged 120.3p (-3.8p).

The firm also sold 2405 prime lambs to a top of £85.80 and 202.1p to average 144.2p (-6.2p).

The 341 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £94 for Texels and average £64.94 (-£3.81), while light ewes peaked at £34.40 for Swaledales and levelled at £34.40 (-£1.60).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2405 prime lambs to a top of £77 and 166.7p to average 138p (-5.6p).

A larger show of 655 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £135 and £126 for two lots of Texels, while Blackfaces peaked at £63.
