THE Scottish economy grew by only 0.1 per cent quarter-on-quarter in the three months to June, as the services sector stagnated, the latest official figures have revealed.

Growth in gross domestic product north of the Border in the second quarter was well adrift of the corresponding rate of expansion of 0.7 per cent for the UK as a whole.

However, amid a raft of signals that the UK recovery is losing momentum, economists believe that UK growth is likely to have slowed significantly in the third quarter.
