BEER industry heavyweight John Dunsmore, the former chief executive of Scottish & Newcastle and C&C Group, has launched a craft brewery in his home city of Edinburgh.

Edinburgh Beer Factory has been founded by Mr Dunsmore with wife Lynne and daughter Kirsty.

Based in an industrial unit in the west of the city, it has been billed as an “unashamedly modern, urban microbrewery”.

The brewer’s name is inspired by two of Mr Dunsmore’s personal heroes –Tony Wilson, founder of Manchester independent label Factory Records, home of Joy Division and New Order, and 1960s cultural icon Andy Warhol.

Its first product will be Paolozzi lager, 5.2 per cent Munch style beer named after the Scots-Italian inventor of Pop Art, Eduardo Paolozzi.
