Extra staff are being put on duty as Glasgow Airport gears up for one of its busiest periods of the year.

Close to 155,000 people are expected to pass through the terminal by Monday as people go away during the school half-term break for many parts of Scotland.

Passenger numbers are expected to be around one-fifth ahead of the corresponding period in 2014.

The airport said many of the extra staff will be deployed to help people through the check-in process with a particular focus on those groups travelling with young children.

A range of activities and craft fairs will also be available for younger travellers.

Traditional sunshine destinations such as the Canary Islands are said to be popular for the period along with the likes of Budapest, Prague and Dublin.

For those travelling slightly further afield Dubai, Las Vegas and Florida are among the places expected to be busy.

Francois Bourienne, Glasgow Airport’s commercial director, said: “We always look forward to the October holiday break, and this year it follows on from our busiest summer in seven years where we welcomed more than three million passengers through our doors and launched 24 new routes and services.

“This weekend will be a busy one and we are expecting 20 per cent more passengers than we did during the same period last year.

“We’ll have more staff in the terminal to ensure everyone enjoys a smooth journey through the airport.”
