Strathclyde University Principal Sir Jim McDonald has been appointed to lead Weir Group’s newly created Technology Advisory Board.

The board will be tasked with making sure the business remains well informed about technology trends.

Other members are Professor Bill Drury from the Royal Academy of Engineering at Bristol University, former BP upstream technology head Jackie Mutschler, Cambridge Mechatronics founder Tony Hooley and technology consultant Laura James.

Weir Group chief executive Keith Cochrane said: “Our technology board, under Sir Jim’s leadership, has been specifically chosen to ensure Weir benefits from expertise from a range of backgrounds, both academic and industrial, and uses that knowledge to continue to succeed in an increasingly complex and connected world.”

Sir Jim is already a non-executive director on Weir’s main board.
