Skyscanner has announced three new office openings and appointed a global head of engineering.

The Edinburgh-headquartered flight comparison site headed by Gareth Williams employs over 450 between the capital and Glasgow, and a further 250 world-wide.

“The expansion brings Skyscanner up to ten global offices, a five-fold increase in just three years, and includes the official launch of two dedicated engineering hubs,” the company said.

It will open hubs in London's Moorgate and the Bulgarian capital Sofia, as well as a new and larger Hungarian office in Budapest focused on mobile usage.

“The move is part of an expansion of engineering resources worldwide,” said the company, which reported a 42 per cent increase in revenue to £93million last year, and a 77per cent increase in mobile visitors.

During 2015 it has created more than 160 new roles across the business, and it said yesterday 115 engineering roles were currently open in its European offices alone.

Skyscanner has also appointed a senior vice-president of engineering, Bryan Dove, 53, formerly director of engineering at Amazon’s S3, who will head up the London hub and a global engineering team which accounts for almost half of the workforce.

Mr Dove commented: “As a rapidly growing tech company and a leader in online travel, strength in engineering is at the core of our strategy.

" Delivering a world-class product to 50million monthly visitors across the globe is not easy, and we require the best talent out there to help us do this and continue our growth at scale.”

Skyscanner’s other offices are in Barcelona, Beijing, Miami, Shenzhen and Singapore.
