Messrs Craig Wilson had 2052 prime lambs forward at Ayr yesterday when heavyweights were much dearer on the week. Top prices on the day were £83 per head and 182.1p per kg with the final average levelling at 154p (+2.9p on the week).

There were also 680 cast sheep forward when fatter types were cheaper. Ewes sold to £89 for Texels and £59 for Blackfaces.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 49 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 255p per kg and an average of 210p (-4.1p), while 31 prime bullocks peaked at 250p and levelled at 211.9p (+2.2p).

In the rough ring 68 beef cows averaged 112.1p (no change) and 9 dairy cows levelled at 74.3p. A couple of clean OTM cattle averaged 174.4p.

The firm also sold 2105 prime lambs to a top of £87 and 187.2p to average £68.41 and 155.2p (-2p).

The 458 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £89 for Suffolks and average £69.22, while light ewes peaked at £69 for Cheviots and levelled at £48.

The firm also sold 8 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 223.5p and an average of 187.5p (+3p), while 33 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 219.5p and levelled at 188p (-7.6p). Four prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 145.5p and averaged 133.7p (-0.4p). Thirty-five prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 215.5p and averaged 178.5p (-15.3p), while 60 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 173.5p and levelled at 144.3p (-0.7p).

In the rough ring 73 beef cows averaged 105.6p (-4.7p) and 242 dairy cows levelled at 83.9p (-1p). Seven bulls averaged 107.5p (+3.5p).

The firm also sold 2199 prime lambs to a top of £88.80 and 218.4p to average 155.7p (+0.3p).

The 123 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £76 for Texels and average £55.84, while light ewes peaked at £47 for Blackfaces and levelled at £33.88.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 25 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 251p and an average of 232.1p (+1.1p), while 10 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 246p and levelled at 210.6p (+2.4p). Seven prime, B&W bullocks sold to 134.5p and averaged 131.2p (+1p).

In the rough ring 23 beef cows averaged 101.7p (-4.8p) and 38 dairy cows levelled at 75.2p (-3.9p). Four bulls averaged 79.2p (-10.3p).

The firm also sold 1506 prime lambs to a top of £88 and 200p to average 155.8p (+2.9p).

The 593 cast sheep forward averaged saw ewes sell to £117.50 for a pair of Texels and average £58.21 overall. Within that average 216 Blackface ewes sold to £52.50 and levelled at £44.44.
