Utility company Pennon Group has said its first-half profit rose 6.8 per cent, helped by strength in its energy recovery facilities unit.

The company, which provides water and environmental waste utilities, said pre-tax profit rose to £106.8 million for the six months to September 30, from £100m a year earlier.

Revenue fell 0.5 per cent to £689.1m.
